British Chamber of Commerce in Korea (BCCK) CEO Sean Blakeley provided an opening speech at the Fair Play Club Seminar for Compliance and Business Ethics on June 22, 2017, at the British Embassy Seoul. The seminar, which was co-hosted by the British Embassy Seoul, the BCCK and Global Compact Network Korea (GCNK), focused on introducing recent British anti-corruption legislation and global trends on compliance in order to promote collective action for fighting corruption for companies in Korea.
Following opening speeches by British Ambassador Charles Hay, BCCK CEO Sean Blakeley, and GCNK Secretary General Suk-bum Park, the event featured lectures by speakers from Clifford Chance, the law firm, Transparency International UK, and GCNK. The lectures were followed by a presentation by a Siemen’s representative on best practices for companies to fight corruption in Korea.
During his speech, Mr. Blakeley pointed out that the BCCK is active in informing its members about the latest developments in the fight against corruption in Korea and sharing knowledge about ways to participate in the Korean government’s anti-corruption initiatives.
“With the recent introduction of the Kim Young-Ran Anti-graft Law, fighting corruption has become a major priority for the business community in Korea,” said Mr. Blakeley. “I strongly believe that the Korean business community can benefit from the experience of the UK, given its long-standing anti-corruption regime and strong adherence of its companies to the rule of law. I am glad to see that the Fair Player Club Seminar for Compliance and Business Ethics is acting as a cornerstone for stronger UK-Korea business relations, bringing together business leaders and stakeholders to raise awareness of anti-corruption issues and to share best practices. The BCCK is privileged to be part of this important seminar.”
The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC), and the Siemens Integrity Initiative. The event was organized by the Global Competitiveness Empowerment Forum.
